Abstract
Mathematics concepts set in the context of real-life
applications motivate the learning of students in introductory level courses.
In M116 Contemporary Mathematics and M140 Precalculus, applications to
music, sound, and acoustics are not only academically appropriate, but also of
particular interest to these students. Writing
intensive assignments (labs) based on music applications are best presented
as web pages enhanced with sound files and video clips.
The resulting labs will enable students to learn by experiencing the
mathematics and sound effects, instead of just reading about them.
